
Deacon Mike Evans, who served the diocese for more than 34 years, died on April 2. He was 82. Deacon Evans served at Sacred Heart Parish in Anderson for his entire ministry, and retired in 2017.
Bishop Jaime Soto will preside at a funeral Mass for Deacon Evans on Tuesday, April 15 at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, located at 3141 St. Stephen's Dr. in Anderson.
The viewing for Deacon Evans will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 14, at Allen and Dahl Funeral Home, located at 2030 Howard St. in Anderson.
Deacon Evans is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances, three children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Deacon Evans coached little league, served on the school board, ministered at Sacred Heart Parish and encouraged everyone to reach for their highest potential. A committed community leader, he was grew up in Redding and returned to the area to raise his family. He was influential in the initiation of three non-profit organizations: Anderson Cottonwood Christian Assistance, an interfaith group providing food and other assistance; Faith Works, which helps to house veterans and others; and Northern Valley Catholic Social Service, which provides disaster relief, housing services and counseling services for six counties of the north state.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to Anderson Cottonwood Christian Assistance or Faith Works.
