With faith in the promise of the Resurrection, the Diocese of Sacramento mourns the passing of Deacon Llewllyn “Mike” Urick, who entered eternal life on Sept. 5, 2026, in Alabama at the age of 80.
Deacon Mike was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Sacramento on June 10, 2000, and served the Diocese for more than 21 years. His ministry included many years of service at St. Basil the Great Parish in Vallejo, where he was known for his faith, his humor and a memorable preaching voice that, as his family recalls, could fill the church.
Before his diaconal ministry, Deacon Mike served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. His life was deeply rooted in faith and family. He and his wife, Sheila, shared more than 50 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his son, Michael, and a proud grandfather to Erin, Loghan and Taylor.
His family remembers a man who loved to laugh and enjoyed baseball, football, golf and a good glass of wine. Above all, they remember the faith and love he shared generously with his family, friends and parish community.
Please pray for the eternal repose of Deacon Mike’s soul and for the consolation of his wife, Sheila, his family, friends and all those he served during his years of ministry.
