In response to the Park Fire affecting Butte, Plumas, Shasta, and Tehama Counties, Bishop Jaime Soto and Auxiliary Bishop Rey Bersabal offer the following statement and words of consolation:
We are deeply saddened by the devastating destruction and loss caused by the Park Fire within our diocese. Our prayers go out to the families in the affected Northern California communities, especially those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. We pray for the courageous men and women who are battling the fire and give thanks that amidst such destruction there has been no loss of life.
The Park Fire has already burned 390,000 acres, an area larger than the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco combined and destroyed more than 450 homes and businesses.
As the fire crews continue to battle the blaze, We especially entrust to our Heavenly Father all those who have been evacuated and who have lost their homes.

Estamos profundamente entristecidos por la destrucción y pérdida causada por el Incendio (Park Fire) dentro de nuestra diócesis. Nuestras oraciones están con las familias de las comunidades afectadas del norte de California, especialmente aquellos que han perdido sus hogares y el sustento de sus vidas. Oramos por esos hombres y mujeres valientes que están luchando contra el fuego y damos gracias porque en medio de tanta destrucción no ha habido pérdidas humanas.
