The family is the “domestic church” — the hearth of hope, and the heart of faith life where we are nurtured, educated, supported and strengthened in faith. As families form and grow, youth explore and inspire, and young adults begin to express their faith with new maturity and freedom to live and serve in Christ. The Diocese of Sacramento reaches out with a variety of programs and services which support a range of needs.
Our Focus
The Office of Family, Youth and Young Adults is under the umbrella of the Department of Evangelization and Catechesis. Family Life programs and services center on the many forms of family life or “Domestic Church.” This includes ministries pertaining to marriage preparation and enrichment as well as ministries, which support the family through all stages of life from youth to seniors. We strive to train, counsel and consult with compassion and love through joys and difficulties. As such, this office also provides assistance and guidance for individuals, couples and families experiencing the following:
- troubled marriages, separation, or divorce
- the pain of abortion
- illness
- aging family members
- death and bereavement
- domestic violence
- substance abuse
- special needs
Youth and Young Adult Ministries are well-established throughout the Diocese and emphasize faith formation and spiritual opportunities for young people.
The Office of Family, Youth and Young Adults emphasizes that all life is sacred. Our Respect Life Programs offer guidance to facilitate a meaningful, live-giving response to God’s grace even in the face of challenging issues and events in our lives.
Our Commitment to You
The Office of Family, Youth and Young Adults offers resources and assistance to parishes, Newman communities, individuals and families throughout the twenty counties of the Diocese of Sacramento as encouraged and promoted by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and our own Bishop William Weigand.
