Diocesan Liturgical Commission
"Every diocese is to have a commission on the sacred liturgy under the direction of the bishop, for promoting the liturgical apostolate." - Sacrosanctum Concilium 45
The Litugical Commission provides counsel to the Bishop and the Office of Worship on liturgical matters, develops and provides resources for parishes and promotes liturgical renewal throughout the Diocese of Sacramento.
To implement the liturgical norms of the Universal Church
To be aware of instructions coming from the Holy See and the USCCB and to implement them faithfully.
- To formulate liturgical policies, norms and guidelines in accordance with those instructions for use throughout the diocese.
To promote liturgical vitality throughout the Diocese
To promote 'fully conscious and active participation' in all liturgical celebrations.
To increase liturgical knowledge through training and catechesis.
To be aware of the liturgical needs of parishes, to listen and respond accordingly.
To assist the Bishop in his role as chief shepherd and pastor
To follow the instructions of the Bishop in matters pertaining to the liturgical life of the Church.
- To inform and advise the Bishop on liturgical issues.
To ensure that liturgical practices in the diocese are consistent with the norms of the Universal Church and the USCCB.
To address liturgical irregularities that may arise in parishes.
