Diocesan Liturgical Commission
"Every diocese is to have a commission on the sacred liturgy under the direction of the bishop, for promoting the liturgical apostolate." - Sacrosanctum Concilium 45
The Litugical Commission provides counsel to the Bishop and the Office of Worship on liturgical matters, and develops and provides guidelines, resources and training to parishes in order to promote liturgical renewal throughout the Diocese of Sacramento.
To implement the liturgical norms of the Universal Church
To stay informed regarding matters pertaining to liturgy eminating from the Holy See and the USCCB and to implement them in a timely and faithful manner.
- To formulate liturgical policies, norms and guidelines in accordance with those instructions for use throughout the diocese.
To promote spiritual vitality throughout the diocese through beautiful liturgy faithfully executed.
To promote 'fully conscious and active participation' in all liturgical celebrations.
To enable greater participation by means of training and instruction.
To assess the liturgical needs of parishes and respond accordingly.
To assist the Bishop in his role as chief shepherd and pastor
To follow the instructions of the Bishop in matters pertaining to the liturgical life of the Church.
- To inform and advise the Bishop on liturgical issues.
To ensure that liturgical practices in the diocese are consistent with the norms of the Universal Church and the USCCB.
To address liturgical irregularities that may arise in parishes.
