Catechist formation day offered in Palo Cedro August 22

Staff members of the diocese’s Department of Evangelization and Catechesis and other catechetical leaders will offer a catechist formation day for catechists in the northern portion of diocese on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Bishop Quinn Catholic Center, located at 21893 Old 44 Dr. in Palo Cedro.
Holly Peterson, religious studies instructor at Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, will give a keynote address to open the event, titled “Exciting and Effective Catechesis.”
Four workshops will be presented in a morning session: “Catechesis: A Moment in the Process of Evangelization,” with Deacon Ray Helgeson; “The Exodus: From Sunday School to the Easter Vigil,” with Richard Cherveny; “Salvation History: Our Catholic Family Story,” with Carson Weber; and “Ways to Pray with Children and Parents,” with Sister Luciana Manrique and Sharon Laitinen.
Four workshops will also be presented in an afternoon session: “Teaching the Faith as a Pastoral, Catechetical and Liturgical Act,” with Helgeson; “The Mystery of Paradox and the New Testament,” with Cherneny; “Evangelization: Christ-like Zeal for Souls,” with Weber; and “Proclaiming and Explaining the Catholic Faith in Ways Applicable to Our Children’s Lives,” with Sister Manrique and Laitinen.
A two-part workshop including discussion and dialogue will offered in English and Spanish on the same day for youth and young adult ministers. Titled “We Are One Body in Christ: Together in Mission,” it will be presented by the diocese’s Hispanic youth ministry leadership team, who will have recently returned from a leadership training in Fresno.
