Catholic Relief Services, the U.S. bishops’ official international relief and development agency, is accepting donations for the people of Haiti after a devastating earthquake in January and for the people of Chile after a powerful earthquake struck the South American country on Saturday.
Donations are accepted via the Web site at www.crs.org
CRS is supporting Caritas Chile, the social service arm of the Catholic Church, which is responding with food and other assistance. CRS is accepting donations and will assist Caritas Chile with financial resources as well as with expertise if requested.
“We ask all to give their prayers and support to the people of Chile at this difficult time,” said CRS president Ken Hackett. ‘It must be remembered that Chile was one of the first countries to give help to Haitians in their suffering.”
On March 20-21, parishioners in the Diocese of Sacramento will be asked to donate to the annual nationwide special collection for Catholic Relief Services during weekend liturgies.
The work to aid victims of the recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile and other disasters around the world is only a part of how the Catholic Relief Services’ collection’s funds are used. The collection helps to fund six Catholic organizations which make differences in real lives, improving the quality of life and celebrating human dignity.
Please be charitable in the Catholic Relief Services collection at your parish.
